Having heard and seen enough from coffee grinder sellers that it is impossible to make coffee without a quality coffee grinder, I ordered a manual coffee grinder on Aliexpress.
The coffee grinder didn't arrive safely, I don't know what that was connected with.
There was nothing worthwhile in the stores except rotary grain crushers.
By the way, it is unclear why even well-known companies manufacture rotary grain crushers under the guise of coffee grinders, because they can produce nothing but dust and only turn valuable raw materials into waste.
I had no desire to buy a branded manual coffee grinder for $300 without having a decent coffee maker. In addition, sellers hide the fact that with some types of grinding you will have to turn the handle for ten minutes for one serving of coffee, while heating the coffee maker with a boiler for 10-15 minutes, tamping, preparing and then washing it all for joy. All this takes place when there is nothing to do or you get your zen from it. And you will not see a gourmet turning millstones manually among professionals in shorts - they usually have an electric coffee grinder.
I was looking for a coffee grinder with steel, non-flat burrs and, fortunately, the DNS company brings electric coffee grinders with burrs under its Reoka brand for ridiculous money, by coffee equipment standards.
You can see that the design and presentation were handled by a specialist.
The review is a bit muddled because the coffee grinder evokes mixed feelings; it feels like they took a professional model of coffee grinder and cut it down to make it cheaper.
I was also personally tormented by the question of the necessity of this purchase - after all, I don’t even have a household horn, but a Chinese one capsule coffee maker.
The packaging is not just good - it is excellent, on par with professional electronics packaging.
At the top of the box you are immediately greeted by several brochures.
The operating instructions do not say in what position to remove the funnel from the neck of the coffee grinder. It also does not say how to turn it off and, by and large, is absolutely useless.
The insert "Which coffee grind to choose" is also useless, as it does not contain even approximate numbers that need to be set on the coffee grinder. These useless circles, in general, do not carry any information.
And only in the PDF instructions can you read that for espresso you need to select a value of 5 - 7, but in my case, the numbers 5 - 7 just turn out to be crap, since the grind is too coarse. At 4 it is more or less normal, and even this grind is not suitable for reusable capsules due to the wateriness of the resulting drink.
What the Chinese have succeeded in is the completeness of their products - you don't have to rush around looking for something else without which it is impossible to use, everything you need is already in the set. European products immediately come to mind, where not only do you buy something, you also have to buy a bunch of something else without which this something is useless. In the pursuit of sucking out money, marketers forget about the convenience of the consumer.
However, don't let the good packaging fool you - the Chinese roots of the cheapening begin to show.
I'll start with the plug and cable - a flimsy plug is attached to the thinnest cable possible. The plug dangles in the European socket and you need to catch the moment when you can make contact, while the coffee grinder will constantly turn on / off.
The cable can be wound underneath the grinder, but the socket will still stick out. The body is made of cheap plastic, but it has rubber feet.
The coffee grinder is made in China by Ningbo Hubo Electrical Appliance.
In the world of convenience, there is a brush that is attached to the lid of the ground coffee container. And it is needed for a reason - the stupid design of the ground coffee container simply does not allow you to shake out the ground coffee completely.
The capacity of the coffee beans does not raise any questions - it is neither small nor large. Not all the beans are ground, as is the case with all devices of this type.
The body is made of cheap plastic.
The coffee grinder has a label stating that it uses steel burrs and has twenty-five grind settings.
The coffee grinder has touch control. This is both good and bad. It is good that no contacts oxidize, but it is bad that this display is attached to the body with double-sided tape and I saw it fall off and dangle in the store, and you could also see all the "charm" of Chinese electronics with thin, somehow soldered wires.
The coffee grinder doesn't have any design, but there's nothing off-putting about it either.
The coffee grinder even comes with a ring for convenient pouring of coffee into the portafilter.
Oh, miracle, this ring fits a size 51 portafilter from a coffee maker Polaris PCM 2020 3-in-1.
However, not everything is so rosy - it is impossible to use a tamper for size 51 with this ring - the tamper does not fit into the hole of the ring, and since the ring is not a funnel, it is completely useless.
There is even a stand for convenient work with the horn.
The stand also allows you to pour ground coffee directly into the horn.
It turned out that you can insert a holder from a capsule coffee maker.
In my case, the stand is useless because the coffee will spill past the portafilter.
The dumbest thing about this coffee grinder is the system for installing the ground coffee container, and the container itself.
It is stated with pathos that the container has a hermetic rubber stopper on the container lid.
The cork may be hermetically sealed, but the lid is simply placed/removed from the container without any sealing.
In addition, the plug is difficult to install and remove, and since the lid is simply removed, there is no point in this plug.
The main disadvantage of the coffee grinder is the container lock, which sticks out right on the platform. Because of the lock, it is impossible to put scales to measure the amount of coffee. In addition, it is impossible to put any other container except the one that comes with the set.
There is no way to make any kind of tray or tube to remove ground coffee.
It is not for nothing that the brush is attached directly to the lid of the grain hopper - it is impossible to shake off completely ground coffee somewhere - the coffee gets tightly clogged in the corners.
You will also need a brush to push the beans into the mouth of the coffee grinder.
There is even a sticker reminding you to tap the grinder body before removing the ground coffee container.
In order to access the millstones and clean them, you need to turn the grain hopper so that the open lock pattern matches the arrow sign. Important: the hopper must be empty, there must be no coffee left in the millstones, all the coffee must be ground!
Next, we lift the bunker strictly upwards. Not to the side, not down, or anywhere else, but strictly upwards!
And here it is, the hero of the occasion for many coffee lovers - conical steel millstones.
The rubber sealing ring can be removed for cleaning, but no one in the store was able to put it back on one of the copies.
Despite the fact that it is declared for 25 degrees of grinding, in reality the degrees for espresso start from 7, and the degree of grinding has a large step. So, the recommended degrees of grinding from 7 to 5 did not suit me. More or less normal grinding, in my case, turned out to be 4 and the difference in particle sizes between 5 and 4 is very large. At 3, the grinding is very fine and I was afraid to simply clog the holes of the portafilter with fine grinding.
It is not clear who needs grinding No. 25.
The amount of ground coffee is measured either with a stopwatch or coffee portions, which are cut off again with a stopwatch. However, the minimum value that can be set is 5 seconds, at which a portion of coffee for a professional horn is ground. It is not possible to set a smaller value, for example, for reusable capsules, so you will always have some coffee in the ground coffee container. As a result, the question arises: is it worth buying a coffee grinder at all if the remains from previous grinds will constantly mix with fresh / another type of coffee?
In addition, it is possible to prepare only 2 servings of coffee in a row!
The conclusions I can draw at the moment are as follows, and they do not apply to this coffee grinder, but to electric coffee grinders, coffee machines, and coffee makers with built-in coffee grinders in general. If you have a lot of time and money and want to play around with coffee varieties and grinding degrees, then be prepared for the fact that after each grinding of coffee you will need to thoroughly clean the coffee grinder from coffee residues. A certain amount of coffee will also be used to determine the grinding degree.
Today, capsule coffee makers are a natural evolution of coffee making that saves time and money while providing a consistent coffee drinking experience.
All the shortcomings of this coffee grinder are hidden by its price, which is comparable to the price of a cheap Chinese manual coffee grinder. Is there a difference between freshly ground coffee and ground coffee that has been lying open for a month? There is! Even if your coffee beans are in a folded package, after grinding, the aroma of freshly ground coffee spreads. The coffee grinder performs its functions completely.
In conclusion, don't let the sellers and interested parties, coffee, equipment, etc. mess with your brain. Drink coffee the way you like it, but know your limits - drinking more than two servings of espresso a day does not add to your health in any way. The reviewers, sellers, etc. themselves generally drink coffee from a cheap drip coffee maker, but they will sell you something else to fulfill their task - to squeeze money out of you and make money on it.
Whether you buy whole bean coffee or ground coffee, whichever you like, is entirely your choice.
Have a nice and thick coffee everyone!
